Galveston
This book took me two times to read which is never a good sign. The first half of the book kept me mostly interested and then my attention seemed to wane. I only saw it through to the end out of stubbornness.
Written by the guy that does True Detective. You can tell it’s him.
He has a better vision for TV than books I think, the story was good in but it dragged on and could’ve been slimmed by like 80 - 100 pages.
The main story is interesting as is the whole Rocky/Tiffany angle but it slows to a crawl with too many descriptors for my tastes.
If you like (really like) True Detective, then this is one to get. There’s a decent amount of themes from this book that are present in the second series:
- Roy as a name (Ray in the show)
- Memories of sexual abuse
- Daughter of unknown origins from sexual abuse
- Hillbilly bayou atmospheres
- Industrial cities
Not sure I’ll ever read this again, not sure I’m glad I did but whatever, not great, not terrible.
