My favourite Stephen King book despite not being 5/5.

It only loses half a point because there’s a point midway through in the book where he described Derry in excrutiating detail for what I remember being 80 or so pages. The text on each page was tiny too, it was a bit of a slog…

Apart from that though, this just wins everything entirely. This is the only book that’s ever scared me and kept me turning pages throughout. Also it’s twist galore if I’m remembering right. Everything is out to get those kids.

If you ever watched Stranger Things, you should 100% read this. It’s better than that and doesn’t fall flat on it’s arse at any point1. The coming-of-age story is extremely similar, highly recommend, go do it, yeah now.

Oh and yes, there’s an orgy with kids in it, get over it.

  1. In my opinion Stranger Things started declining pretty rapidly after the second season. No idea why but it went from a gripping drama/thriller to a weird American-ized tween drama which leaned too heavily into displaying Eleven’s powers (we get it, she’s telekinetic) and really milking the synth vibes (Yes everyone wants and loves the ARP 2600).
