Remains of the Day
I initially enjoyed reading this because it’s not the usual thing I’d pick up but after about 80 pages it became apparent that the way it was written was how it was going to be throughout.
I liked the flashbacks/forwards for a little while and it was done pretty seamlessly but it was at times confusing and the novelty faded quite quickly.
Also, the story just wasn’t interesting? Maybe I’m used to reading books with more drama but a book about a butler reminiscing about his past days while he goes “motoring” around the countryside did very little for me.
I still intend on reading Never Let Me Go by the same author but I’m more weary now as this book I’ve just finished is massively hyped as “profound” and won a nobel prize.
I’m definitely in the minority here but yeah, not for me.
